What does Etsy take at different UK sale prices?

Because most fees are percentages but the listing fee and processing fixed fee are flat, the effective rate shrinks as the order grows. VAT at 20% is applied to the fee subtotal and included below. Examples assume free shipping and no Offsite Ads.

Sale priceListingTransaction (6.5%)ProcessingTotal Etsy takes (incl. VAT)Effective %
£7.90£0.16£0.51£0.52£1.4618.5%
£20.00£0.16£1.30£1.00£3.0315.1%
£39.50£0.16£2.57£1.78£5.5614.1%
£79.00£0.16£5.14£3.36£10.6913.5%

Shipping you charge the buyer is part of the order total, so a £20 item with £4 shipping is calculated on £24, not £20. The calculator above handles that automatically.

Which Etsy fee do UK sellers underestimate most?

VAT on fees. It never appears in US-focused advice, yet it adds a fifth to every Etsy fee you pay. A fee stack that looks like 10.8% is really 13% after VAT, and that gap is pure margin.

Second is the Offsite Ads fee, because it is invisible until it hits: any order within 30 days of an ad click carries an extra 12% or 15% plus VAT. Use the toggle above to stress-test: if your price only works at 0%, one ad order can wipe out the sale.

Etsy UK fee questions, answered straight

What fees does Etsy charge UK sellers in 2026?
Five charges: a $0.20 USD listing fee per item, a 6.5% transaction fee on item price plus shipping, payment processing of 4% + 20p, a 0.32% regulatory operating fee, and 20% VAT on all of those. A sixth fee of 12% or 15% applies only to orders that come through Etsy's Offsite Ads.
How much are Etsy fees on a £20 item in the UK?
On a £20 sale with free shipping: listing about 16p, transaction £1.30, processing £1.00, regulatory 6p, then 20% VAT on the £2.52 subtotal (50p). Etsy takes about £3.02 in total, roughly 15.1%. If the buyer arrived through an Offsite Ad, add another £2.40 plus VAT at the 12% rate.
Does the 6.5% transaction fee apply to shipping?
Yes. Etsy charges the 6.5% transaction fee on the full order amount, which includes shipping and gift wrap you charge the buyer. The 4% processing percentage and 0.32% regulatory fee apply to it too.
What is the difference between the listing fee and the transaction fee?
The listing fee is a flat $0.20 USD (about 16p) charged when you publish or renew a listing, and again each time the item sells. The transaction fee is 6.5% of the order total, charged only when a sale happens. You pay both on every sale.
When does Etsy charge the Offsite Ads fee?
Only when a sale is attributed to Etsy's Offsite Ads: a buyer clicks an ad Etsy placed for your listing on Google or a partner site, then buys within 30 days. The fee is 12% of the order total for shops over $10,000 a year (required), or 15% for smaller shops that opted in, plus VAT either way.
Are there any monthly fees to sell on Etsy UK?
No. A standard Etsy shop has no subscription cost; you only pay per-sale fees plus the listing fee. Etsy Plus, an optional plan with listing credits, is not required to sell.
