Etsy Profit Calculator US
Published fee rules reviewed:
Sources and calculation assumptions. Payment processing. Regulatory operating fee. Offsite Ads fee. Tax on Etsy fees (%).
Fee review is over 30 days old. Check the official sources and your invoice before relying on this estimate.
Enter valid nonnegative amounts. Choose a buyer-tax amount or a rate, and enter a positive order value.
Other costs per order
Add only costs not already included above. Allocate subscriptions, listing renewals, expected losses and overhead using your own sales assumptions.
Fee assumptions
Use a buyer-tax amount OR rate, never both. The rate scales with price and shipping; a fixed amount stays unchanged in price scenarios. Seller tax is deducted from tax-inclusive revenue. Use costs net of recoverable tax.
Fee tax is a uniform estimate on all modelled fees. Actual taxable fee categories and tax registration can change the amount; reconcile to your Etsy invoice.
Use 2.5% only when listing and payment-account currencies differ. Enter all amounts in the displayed currency; no live currency exchange is performed.

Scenarios use your inputs and assume one completed order. Margin uses gross order revenue. These are sensitivity checks, not sales forecasts or probabilities.
One item per completed order. Use discounted prices and actual costs in the displayed currency. Presets and non-USD fee conversions are illustrative. Tax rates, currency conversion and allocated costs apply only as entered. This is an order estimate, not a tax return or payout reconciliation. Refunds, income tax and payment-provider charges are not automatically determined.
Calculate what one Etsy order contributes after seller fees, product costs and shipping. Test a discount or an ad-attributed sale before changing your listing.
Calculate my estimateHow do I estimate my Etsy profit?
Add the item price and shipping charged to the buyer, then subtract Etsy fees and your fulfilment costs. This Etsy profit calculator also shows profit margin and a target selling price. The result is an order-level estimate: include labour and overhead in your entered costs if you want them deducted.
Regional assumptions: US
US defaults use 3% + $0.25 payment processing, no regulatory operating fee and no tax on seller fees. Additional buyer sales tax can increase processing fees; enter it in the separate field. Your bank-account location determines the processing schedule.
For a US order, reconcile Etsy's payment-account entries with production and postage paid outside Etsy. Buyer sales tax collected separately is excluded from revenue here. Instant-transfer charges, when used, are outside this order estimate.
Order revenue โ Etsy fees โ entered costs = estimated profit. Margin = estimated profit รท order revenue ร 100.
Read the fee breakdown before counting your earnings
An Etsy payout and an order's profit answer different questions. The payout concerns money Etsy releases to you; profit also has to account for materials, production and delivery paid elsewhere. Start with the applicable regional fee schedule below, then check the settings against your payment account.
| Fee | Rate (US, 2026) | Charged on |
|---|---|---|
| Listing fee | $0.20 | Each item sold or renewed |
| Transaction fee | 6.5% | Item price + shipping charged to buyer |
| Payment processing | 3% + $0.25 | Total amount the buyer pays |
| Offsite Ads (conditional) | 12% / 15% | Total order amount, ad-attributed orders only |

Table uses the default assumptions, one item, no buyer tax and no Offsite Ads unless shown. Editing the calculator does not change this example.
The listing fee is based on US$0.20 and the transaction fee is 6.5%. Payment processing depends on your bank-account country; some markets also have regulatory fees and tax on seller fees. The Etsy fee calculator isolates these deductions when you want to reconcile a statement.
Using the Etsy profit calculator with your actual costs
Use the amount the buyer pays after any seller-funded coupon. Enter postage collected as revenue and postage purchased as a cost: those are two separate cash movements even when the amounts match. For handmade goods, combine materials, packaging and the labour amount you want this order to cover in the product-cost field.
For print on demand, use the chosen size, colour, print placement and destination, rather than the lowest catalogue price. Add non-recoverable supplier tax to your costs. The presets are illustrative starting values; they are not current Printify or Printful quotations.
Follow a $30 order from revenue to contribution
Consider an illustrative US order: a $25 item, $5 shipping collected, $10 production and $4 delivery. With no buyer tax, no fee tax and no Offsite Ads, the model charges $3.30 in Etsy fees. The estimated contribution is $30 โ $3.30 โ $14 = $12.70, or 42.3% of order revenue.
At 15% Offsite Ads, that order adds $4.50 in advertising fees and leaves $8.20, or 27.3%. Nothing about the product changed; acquisition cost changed. These figures are arithmetic examples, not evidence of a typical shop's margin.
What's a good profit margin on Etsy?
A useful margin is one that covers the costs still outside your order estimate. Suppose your orders contribute an average of $8 each and monthly overhead is $160. You need 20 such orders to cover that overhead before income tax and any owner pay you have not already counted. If the contribution drops to $5, the same overhead takes 32 orders.
Set a target from your own time, return costs, advertising mix and overhead. There is no universal percentage that makes a shop safe. Compare profit per order with profit per hour when a lower-margin item is much faster to make.
Stress-test the next change, one input at a time
First record the current result. Then reduce the selling price for a planned promotion while keeping production costs unchanged. In a separate run, restore the price and switch on the relevant Offsite Ads rate. Finally, test a more expensive shipping destination or supplier variant. This separates the reason for each margin change.
A flat return allowance can be entered as part of your costs, based on your own order history. It is a planning provision, not an automatic calculation of Etsy fee credits or provider reimbursements. Keep a separate cash-flow record for payment reserves and supplier bills.
Turn an order estimate into a monthly decision
Multiply a representative contribution by expected orders, then deduct monthly expenses not already allocated per order. Use a conservative sales scenario as well as your usual forecast. Revenue growth alone does not show whether each additional order pays for the work it creates.
If the price needs to change, use the Etsy pricing calculator to work backwards from a chosen margin. Compare the result with buyer demand and your product's value; the calculation establishes cost coverage, not a guaranteed selling price.
